Assignment #3 Marclay cut up record

Vinyl records today are not that popular and most households don't have a record player in their home. This means that there are many records out there collecting dust. However, Christian Marclay and other artists have found a way to take these records and combining them together to make sculptures and see the sounds they can make. Christian Marclay took multiple records cut them up and reconnected the different piece to be whole again, then played them to see what they sounded like and some of them sound quite interesting. So for this assignment I had to do the same thing and see what would happen with the records. I decided since I don't own any records, I would go to a thrift store and see what kinds of records I could find, and pick the ones that might sound interesting when cut up. I grabbed about 10 different kinds of records and just started to cut them up.

For my first idea I decided that I wanted to cut up the record in the shape of an iPhone. I wanted to do this because the way that we listen to music today is with our phones.

For my next idea I just took the 4 records cut them up into different sizes and pieced them back together and this how it turned out.

For the last record I had to drill another how in the record so it could be played off centered. I decided to choose Pam Russo It works for me because it was a very upbeat record.
